MILLEnNIUM STADIUM CARDIFF 2007
After the enormously successful 2005-06 Millennium Stadium party, Outdoor Stages UK were invited back for a second year to take charge of technical production for the event.

This Year's Brief
To create a large-scale dancing area in the unusually shaped 90m x 20m traditional marquee to hold around 4000 people.

The Dance Tent was approached as a technical showcase and an opportunity to pull out all the stops on Production. Being a dance event, the sound was crucial. The main front of house outdoor sound system was capable of producing an awesome 35 000 watts of sound power.

As the sound had to give even coverage throughout the entire marquee, an additional 10 000 watts of concert PA was used as a "delay stack" half-way down the marquee.

The DJ booth was as equally impressive as the outdoor sound system. Standing 8ft off the ground, SXS' own DJ Chris Rowland and Nathan were armed with the latest CDJ800s MKII and Allen and Heath Xone62 DJ mixer. An active monitor system was also used.

Lighting the event proved to be a challenging and exciting project. Working with such a long space meant that lighting fixtures had to be placed along the length of the marquee.

For this purpose four 4-metre truss towers were installed. Each tower featured two Futurelight MH660 moving heads and a Martin Atomic Strobe. Stage end featured four Martin MAC600 wash lights, along with six legendary Clay Paky Golden Scans.

Run by Outdoor Stages UK Lighting Designer Jon Salmon on a Grand MA lighting desk, the lighting was absolutely awesome. The dance tent would have fitted right in at the largest festivals in the country.

On the night itself over 5000 people attended. The professionalism of the stadium staff, enthusiastic party-goers, cleverly-programmed music, wicked sound and excellent lighting made this event a much talked about function.
